Jacobs Starz is thrilled that Jacob’s grandfather’s cousin, the world renowned jazz pianist
Geoff Eales, will be performing with his international band Isorhythm at the Blackwood
Miners’ Institute on 31st May at 8pm
The band comprises Geoff on piano, Bristolian Ben Waghorn ( saxophones ), Australian
Carl Orr ( guitar ), Derbyshireman Fred T Baker ( bass guitar ) and Israeli Asaf Sirkis
( drums ). The concert will include numbers from his highly acclaimed album “Shifting Sands”,
the world premiere of a special piece written by Geoff as a tribute to Jacob entitled “Jacob’s
Ladder” and a few well-loved standards.
Born in Aberbargoed, Geoff studied at Cardiff University before carving a career for himself
as one of London’s top jazz pianists, arrangers and composers. Throughout his incredibly
varied career Geoff has worked with a vast array of artists including Shirley Bassey, Julie
Andrews, Henry Mancini, Rosemary Clooney, Nelson Riddle, Billy May and Andrew Lloyd
Webber.
This promises to be a fantastic show but, as always, we need your support to ensure we raise as much money as possible.

We all had a Cracking Time at this event thanks to the organizational skills of Pop Star aka Mrs Michelle Rogers, Many Thanks to all the families that supported us by attending this event, which was packed with fun and games all provided by the one and only ‘Good Time Gary’ at Venue 1 Tredegar, a huge Thank you to both Gary and Venue 1 for the donation of their services, special Thanks to the bar staff who gave up there time for this event we cant thank you enough.

Once again Jacobs Starz annual band night was a sensational success with over 100 friends and supporters attending the event at the Harlys Oakdale, Many Thanks to Harlys sports cafe and bar for their donation of the venue, to ‘Bomber’ disco for the donation of his services for the evening, to ‘Pipe Dream’ for a amazing performance and their donation of their services.

Starz Show Nite: Its Show time!!! Well it certainly was at the Blue Club that night, Jacobs Starz showcased a multiple of local talent that I’m sure everyone would have agreed was sensational. Jacobs Starz would like to thank all the singers, performers, backstage personnel, and bar staff, with special thanks to ‘Paul’ our Jacobs Starz DJ, also to ‘Buster’ our very own Michael Bauble, and to the ‘Blue Club’ Cefn Forest for the donation of the venue and all their help in the preparation leading up to the Show.

Over 80 ladies braved the winter weather to attend our ladies shopping evening at Bonmarch Blackwood in November, They were treated with a mouth-watering buffet kindly provided by the Bonmarch staff and to wash it all down you could choose from a glass of fruit juice or a cheeky tipple of white wine! just the right choice to get you in the mood for a shopping spree that could save you £100’s with our discount of 40% off everything in store!!!!
The shop soon filled with the chatter of ladies all grabbing themselves and their loved ones a bargain ready for Christmas, and with the party season looming who could blame anyone for picking up that special party outfit ready to impress on that all important night out!!!
The event was rounded off with the raffle draw were 3 lucky winners were treated to a steamer set, a jewellery set and a pamper set all provided by Starz, finally a fond farewell was giving to all the ladies with a huge thank you for their support.
Spooky fun was had by all at our Halloween Party held at the Harlquins Fleur-de-lyss back in Oct last year. Many of our supporters came along and enjoyed the fun and games that were all provided courtesy of the Starz team, Children and Adults alike were treated to ducking apples, trick or treat buckets, face painting and scary scars stalls, this was then followed by a buffet with donations from Braces Bakery, Real crisps and the Starz team themselves, supporters were able to buy spooky cupcakes kindly provided by Michelle Rodway and Diane, all this was then followed by a disco full of monster ball music kindly provided by our resident Starz entertainer Paul. Prizes were awarded to the best dressed and the best dancers all runner ups were treated with sweets and lollies. Another successful event!!!!! Jacobs Starz would like to thank all the people involved in making this event such a huge success and of course to our supporters for ‘Helping Children with Cancer Shine through their Illness’.

The Jacobs Starz annual memory walk took place in Blackwood S.Wales on the 22nd May 2011 to once again celebrate the upcoming birthday of Jacob the inspiration behind the Charity, Jacob would have been 17yrs on 27th May, and the Starz team and their family’s take part in a sponsored memory walk to not only raise funds to ‘Help Children Shine through their Illness’ but also to remember a very inspirational young man who lived life to the full.
The walk began at Blackwood Cricket Club and followed a route that was special to Jacob and his family, The rain stayed at bay while a sea of red took to the streets to successfully complete the walk which finished back at the Cricket Club.
The walkers were treated to a buffet kindly provided by the Team and a few beverages were well earned! Paul our Starz resident Disco, provided us with his selection of music to loosen any stiff muscles!!!! While Joy Greenaway and Gifts.com (Sue and cherie) kindly donated their time to provide handmade gifts and cards and various items for sale all of which proceeds would go to Jacobs Starz funds. the day was rounded off with our annual memory balloon flight, to remember those that are no longer with us but never far from our hearts, and after a brief count down, the balloons were released, what a sight to see has the sky filled with 50 red balloons carrying personal messages to those we love. The balloons are currently being tracked and Jacobs Starz would like to thank all those people who have found the balloons and taking the time to call Jacob Starz to reveal their destination.

The day started with the Jacobs Starz team meeting to prepare for the on slaught of two amazingly talented football teams to battle it out on the pitch for the coverted title of winning in the Jacobs Starz Charity match!
Kick off was at 12,30pm with Abertillery colts and Beaufort colts under 8’s taken to the pitch for what can only be described as a very exciting match, the crowd were wowed with their talent and ball skills! and were treated to a FA cup performance!.Next on pitch were the Dads!……..and oh my! Weren’t we all treated to the delights of men dressed as women, a very revealing morph suit, a ballerina, 118 men and many more!!!!! a fun match was played with all enjoying the afternoon.
All of the day was surrounded with hotdogs being served chocs,crisps,cakes and drinks on hand not to mention the bouncy castle and shoot and score game all of which was a huge success, Joy Greenaway also had her selection of handmade gifts available to buy for that extra special Fathers day.
The event finished at the Bridgend Inn with certificates, pictures and a mouth-watering buffet being provided to all that took part courtesy of Jacobs Starz. A great day had by all with many thanks to:
